Zhaojue Temple was founded in the 7th century and is located in the northeast of Chengdu city, close to Chengdu Zoo.
This place is the first wood temple in the West of Sichuan. It played a vital role in the history of Chinese Buddhism. Many heavenly masters are from the temple.
Most of the temple dates back to the Qing dynasty (1644-1911AD) and many of the buildings were carefully restored in the 1980s.
Today, a monastery of over 200 Buddhist monks thrives among the trees and courtyards of this temple and many Southeast Asian Buddhist Temples take this temple as the supreme temple.
